about

hi. i'm layla. and i'm here in san francisco living, loving, writing, riding, storytelling, learning, rearranging and making a general mess of it all... i am a dancer, choreographer, teacher, feminist-bon vivant with a unique perspective on social/gender/hetero/homo-normatives in 2012.

here's what's up...

these two... tony and louise:

 made this... me:

but for real...

i grew up in long beach, ca, then made some adventures in la, vermont, london, new york and now san francisco. in 1984, when i was almost 2, big red and i went backpacking through europe together. backpack on her back, me on her hip. true story.

i went to art (dance) school three times and picked up a bfa, an mfa and some whack-a-doodle somatic based certifications along the way.

i've always been a writer in some capacity. sometimes scholarly and other times in chalk on the sidewalk. generally, i write what's swirling around up in this red head... so it's honest. i promise. i write the way i speak.

i was often "sick" during the typing sections of my 7th grade elective wheel, so i still hunt-and-peck, using only a few fingers at a time... my pinky rarely reaches wayyyyy over to the shift button... hence, the lack of capital letters. also, tony guest's (and his grandpa jack for that matter) favorite poem is by e.e. cummings. so maybe there's a relationship there...

this is my anything goes space. daily stories. realizations of the intricate and uncanny ways i am exactly the same as my folks and the rest of the guest, dodson, smillie, mckinley, von hoppenyan family tree... i like it that way.
